The three new releases failed to bring down Straight Outta Compton over the weekend, but one came close.
War Room did the best of the three making a total of $11mil. The faith based film had a strong opening on Friday, actually beating Compton, but it could hold up for the rest of the weekend.
From Friday to Sunday, No Escape made a total of $8.2mil, bringing it’s 5 day total to $10.3mil.
Looks like no one wanted to be friends with Zach Efron over the weekend, as his new film We Are Your Friends completely bombed, making only $1.8mil by Sunday. This makes it one of the worst openings for any film film opening in 2,000+ theaters. Now, I didn’t think this movie was going to be a big hit or anything, but I never thought it would open to such terrible numbers.
Straight Outta Compton remained on top for a third weekend, making $13.2mil for a total of $134 so far. Compton has been the only bright spot for all the films that came out in August, as the majority have failed to latch on to audiences.
