Welcome to the Casting Corner! Here we help out the casting directors of the world by picking and choosing the best performers for movies that have yet to be cast.
This week we have the cast for the new Affleck directed THE BATMAN.
You know it’s coming. We know it’s coming. It will have Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and very likely appearances from Jared Leto & Margot Robbie as The Joker & Harley Quinn.
Let’s see who else they could cast…
NIGHTWING/DICK GRAYSON: Sam Claflin
I wasn’t a fan of Claflin’s until I saw him in his breakout role in Catching Fire where he showed that he was much more than just a handsome mug. In this film, it would be great to see an adult version of one of the Robin’s. He could be someone who is a bit estranged from Bruce and is slowly pulled back into his orbit.
BATGIRL/BARBARA GORDON: Anna Kendrick
Kendrick is just a movie star and it would be wonderful to see her bring intelligence and deep humanity to a member of the Bat-Family. We would also get to see her play scenes with her The Accountant co-stars Ben Affleck and J.K. Simmons. None of that sounds awful at all.
HUSH: Matt Damon
We all want to see Damon square off against or team-up with Affleck’s Batman, but it needs to be the right character. Having Hush be the primary villain of the movie would give Damon a character to really sink his teeth into and get to play on the history he has with being Affleck’s friend.
CATWOMAN: Gugu Mbatha-Raw
I just want her to be a huge star and will not stop “fan-casting” her until someone does something about it. She has the edge and playfulness to be an amazing Catwoman and would bring a luminescence to her scenes as Selina Kyle.
HUGO STRANGE: Jordan Peele
Rumors have The Batman taking place within the walls of Arkham Asylum. It would be very cool to see Hush team with the main doctor there, Hugo Strange. Jordan Peele has more than proven his abilities as an actor and as a comedian. It would be a joy to see him operate within this world as someone just a bit off.
POISON IVY: Natalie Dormer
Dye her hair red and throw some vines on her and boom. You have your Poison Ivy. It would be even cooler to see her interact with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
THE RIDDLER: Sharlto Copley
I want this. You want this. The world NEEDS this. Maybe just make it happen, WB.
TWO-FACE: Richard Armitage
The Hobbit just wasn’t the star-maker that everyone involved wanted it to be, but Armitage showed with his performance that there is something to be found. He can play deeply tortured individuals who are constantly teetering on the edge of good and bad.
RA’S AL GHUL: Pedro Pascal
My favorite Game of Thrones actor must play my favorite Batman villain. It just needs to happen. Pascal would crush it just as hard as his head was crushed in Game of Thrones. Sorry for the spoiler!
