We’re big fans of Tessa Thompson over here at Filmthusiast HQ. I’ve been a fan since she played Jackie in VERONICA MARS starting back in 2005. Lately she has been consistently turning up in our favorite movies like SELMA and CREED. Her performance in CREED in particular was so strong that she seemed to be on the cusp of super stardom. It was only a matter of time until she got one big movie that would put her over the top.

It looks like we know what that movie is.

Deadline has revealed that Tessa Thompson will be joining THOR: RAGNAROK and the MCU as a whole while The Hollywood Reporter has added that Natalie Portman will not be returning to the fold.

With the news that Natalie Portman isn’t returning, it really seems like this new installment of Thor is jettisoning a lot of the problems that plagued the last two movies. Feige, Waititi, and company must be studying the last two films to figure out what to excise with surgical precision to ensure that the third go-round delivers a Thor movie worthy of it’s existence. I am 100% on board with that.

Even more exciting is the news of a wonderful black actress not only joining the fray as a superhero in this movie, but for several other Marvel films to come!

I have no idea who this “love interest of Thor” is that Thompson will play, but I can’t wait to find out when THOR: RAGNAROK opens on November 3, 2017.
