HBO’s GAME OF THRONES has become a breeding ground for the next crop of massive film stars. Richard Madden was in CINDERELLA, Emilia Clarke was in TERMINATOR: GENISYS (but we won’t hold that against her), and Sophie Turner is the new Jean Grey in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Now we have word of another GOT actor joining a massive movie franchise.
Being a huge fan of this actor from both the HBO fantasy epic and from seeing him pop up in a great supporting turn in FORCE MAJEURE, I couldn’t be more excited about seeing him feature in one of the most shockingly enduring action franchises out there.
I’m very curious to see if they lock down the previously rumored Charlize Theron for the main baddie in the film. It would be great to see her back behind the wheel after last year’s masterpiece, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.
It will also be very interesting to see what direction this franchise takes in the wake of Paul Walker’s sudden death in the middle of production on FURIOUS 7. They had half a film in the can when he passed and had to work around that material using some very creative filmmaking tricks. It made for one of the most stirring final sequences in a movie about fast cars, racing, and thievery ever. Will they lean into this and go all in on making this series about family, love and loss (all themes they’ve touched upon in the past) or will they revert back to the more bombastic tone of FAST FIVE?
We will have to wait and see.
