Welcome to the Casting Corner! Here we help out the casting directors of the world by picking and choosing the best performers for movies that have yet to be cast.
This week we have the cast for the film adaptation of the video game UNCHARTED.
The movie has been long in pre-production, so I thought I would lend the crew and studio a hand by picking out the best choices for these beloved characters. I figured the best way to go would be to treat this film as an amalgamation of the first three games.
Let’s chart this cast…
NATHAN DRAKE: Enver Gjokaj
Enver is currently killing it on ABC’s AGENT CARTER and deserves a shot at the big leagues. He has plenty of charisma and would rattle off Drake’s one-liners like he was born to spew them. He is so good that they double cast him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (he is also in THE AVENGERS). To seal the deal, he also pretty much wore the Drake costume during his brief stint on THE WALKING DEAD.
VICTOR “SULLY” SULLIVAN: J.K. Simmons
Sully is equal parts father figure, mentor, best friend, and enabler. He is the man who taught Drake everything he knows and has his back until the bitter end. J.K. Simmons would be phenomenal in the role and bring a ton of humor and heart to Sully. I can’t imagine anyone better playing the part.
ELENA FISHER: Gillian Jacobs
Watch Netflix’s LOVE and then read this. Yeah? You saw it? You loved it? Of course you did. Should we cast Gillian Jacobs as the female lead of the UNCHARTED franchise? Yeah we should! She looks just like Elena and would really shine in this type of down-and-dirty, physical role. I would also like to see the sparks that would fly between her and Enver.
CHLOE FRAZER: Zoe Kravitz
Kravitz has been showing up everywhere and it’s time to give her the big, charismatic role that will put her over the top. Chloe would be a great fit for Kravitz and it would be a lot of fun to see her maneuver between the good guys and the bad guys using nothing but her brains and charm… and maybe a little weapons work.
KATHERINE MARLOWE: Helen Mirren
Marlowe is Mirren. The character was based on her. ‘Nuff said.
CHARLIE CUTTER: Colin Salmon
Colin Salmon can go between physically intimidating and outrageously funny in the blink of an eye. You need someone with those kind of chops to play Cutter. I’d normally go with Jason Statham (who is essentially who the character is based on), but he’s probably too on the nose for the character. Go watch the first season of MASTER OF NONE on Netflix and you will see that Salmon would be a perfect choice for Cutter.
ZORAN LAZAREVIC: Rory McCann
I would use Lazarevic a little differently than how he is used in the game. I would have this dictator be a pawn of Marlowe’s and have him be the main physical opponent for Team Drake. There is no one better to pull that off than The Hound himself, Rory McCann.
HARRY FLYNN: Noel Clarke
I would fold the characters of Flynn and Talbot into one turncoat who deserts the main character in the opening sequence. He then continues to turn up as a Machiavellian, devil-may-care type of rogue throughout the film. He would need to be a baddie that the audience would love. I think Noel Clarke would be a tremendous fit for that character.
And that is the cast for UNCHARTED.
