It is no question that STAR WARS will dominate the box office this weekend, but the real question is, how big will it be?

The simple answer is, HUGE! It already broke the highest grossing Thursday preview ever with a staggering $57mil, beating the previous record holder HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS’ $43.5mil and I expect it to make over $100mil on Friday alone. When Disney releases it’s Friday numbers, they will be including the Thursday preview, so it will be a massive number.┬áThe rest of the weekend should be just as strong, but might dip a little, but it will hold up very nicely.

The previous record holder for biggest opening weekend was made this year by the horrible film JURASSIC WORLD with $208mil. As STAR WARS will be half way there by the end of Friday, it will have no problem beating it. But how much will it beat the competition? With the way things are going, I would say that STAR WARS has a great chance of opening with $250mil. The film will has have great legs, as most people have already planned their second and third time viewings and STAR WARS will be an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

The nest question will be, can it be the highest grossing film of all time? My answer is, yes. After STAR WARS opens this weekend, it faces zero competition for about the next 6 weeks. With amazing reviews, and already great word of mouth, I don’t see STAR WARS leaving the #1 spot anytime soon. The highest grossing film Is all time right now is AVATAR with $760mil, and I can see STAR WARS surpassing it and get around $800mil in total.

Now, if you didn’t know, there are two other movies opening up against STAR WARS. Yeah, I don’t know why anyone thought that would be a great idea, but there ya go.

First we have SISTERS, which stars Tine Fey and Amy Poehler who are two of the greatest comedic minds out now about two sisters having one last big party at their family home before it is sold. The trailers have been amusing and the reviews are overall positive, so it should bring in some counter programming, but I honestly see it being overlooked sadly. Though I love Amy and Tina, going up against STAR WARS is a losing battle and I don’t see this grossing over $10mil over the weekend.

The next movie we have is ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: ROAD CHIP. I am seriously at a loss on why this movie was made. It’s been 4 years since the last film, and that one was the lowest grossing film of this odd franchise. I don’t see why the studio felt like we needed a 4th CHIPMUNKS movie, but here ya go. As predicted, it’s getting awful reviews and has about zero buzz. At least SISTERS is has some marketing behind it, where I see nothing for ROAD CHIP. Since it is apart of a recognizable brand, I do see it having a slight bump over SISTERS and make $12mil. This makes me very sad, as I would love to see SISTERS do better, but that’s just the way things are.

SISTERS – $10mil
