The first teaser for Justin Lin’s STAR TREK BEYOND has snuck past the neutral zone borders and is available for you to watch now…

Here it is:

Our thoughts:

-Love the call back to the first J.J. Abrams STAR TREK with the usage of the Beastie Boys song “Sabotage.” Definitely a fun track to set the trailer to.

-This looks both tonally similar and yet strikingly different than the first two films. We have the same ship and crew, but the costumes, planetary missions, and overall aesthetic is quite a bit different from what has come before. I think that is a good choice.

-The Scotty cliff hang sequence looks pretty goofy. I hope that they spruce it up before the release.

-I adore the Spock/Bones moment in the trailer. Classic.

-There seem to be a ton of action and practical effects with all the CGI nonsense that we are used to.

-It kind of seems like the main threat is an interstellar Bermuda Triangle. Hard to get a read on Idris Elba’s character other than that he says “This is where it begins, Captain. This is where the frontier pushes back.” Very intrigued to see what that line means.

-The ensemble is getting a ton of screentime! I’ll never complain about that. I’m really hoping that Sulu and Chekov get their own little side mission.

Overall this looks like fun. Bring on the beyond.
