Fox has released the first trailer for next summer’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and it looks like it could be the biggest X-Men movie ever…
Here’s the trailer for you to check out:
-Enough time has passed since DAYS OF FUTURE PAST that there are kids living in the X-Mansion! The school is back. That was definitely very missed from the last movie and it makes me happy to see Xavier back in his classic teacher role.
-Moira is back and is the one to inform Xavier and Alex (!!!) that the first mutant, Apocalypse, has returned.
-We get quick shots of young Storm, Psylocke, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Jubilee, and more. Looks like another big ensemble for this one with a lot of classic characters appearing.
-“Like the four horsemen of the apocalypse. He got that one from the bible.” “Or the bible got it from him.” Oh snap. Get it, Moira.
-Apocalypse doesn’t look great. I love Oscar Isaac, so I have no doubt that his performance will deliver. It’s a little bit of a bummer that a character named Apocalypse doesn’t look intimidating.
-It does look like this movie takes place predominantly in the basement of the X-Mansion while Xavier cries while using cerebro. Maybe they are drawing from a some early footage. It does appear to be pretty close to what was reported to have been shown at Comic-Con.
-Seriously with the black leather??? It’s the 1980s! You can actually use the costumes that these characters famously wore and it would be period appropriate. The look of this thing is just terrible.
-Apocalypse’s size-shifting is really goofy looking, but it at least has some personality. This thing looks like it could be a mess, but hopefully it will be an enjoyable mess.
-We’re getting a new Quicksilver running scene! Hopefully it does something different and expands upon the character’s abilities, rather than just doing the same thing as the last movie (no matter how good that scene was).
-The CGI extravaganza at the end is very disconcerting and really feels like they released a trailer with unfinished effects. From Archangel, to the post-apocalyptic backdrop, to the massive explosions, and everything else. It looks big, it looks boring, and it looks bad.
-That last shot with a bald Xavier is pretty rad, though.
Hopefully this trailer isn’t indicative of the finished product.
