Disney Animation Studios released a behind-the-scenes look at the casting of a 14-year-old Native Hawaiian, Auli’i Cravalho, as their Princess Moana in MOANA.

If there is something that Disney seems to be getting lately, it is that goodwill and fuzzy feelings trumps anything else in a promotional campaign. They have a massive campaign for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS primarily built on goodwill and now they are at it again with their new animated film, Moana.

The way that Disney handled this is arguably far more effective than any clip or trailer could be. The young girl who has been cast is effortlessly charming, the production team seems to have a sense of showmanship, and it just feels like a great introduction to this project.

I’m certainly already rooting for it.
