Welcome to the Casting Corner! Here we help out the casting directors of the world by picking and choosing the best performers for movies that have yet to be cast.

This week we have the cast for the remake of JAWS!

There have been rumblings about a possible remake of this classic film, but so far no cast nor crew have been chosen to board the Orca and hunt down the great white terror!

CHIEF BRODY: Bryan Cranston

There really is only one choice (actually two, but I just used my other top choice in a recent Casting Corner piece) to take on the character of Chief Brody that Roy Scheider imbued with a tremendous amount of heart and soul: Bryan Cranston. He is the perfect choice for an island police chief that butts heads with the mayor while trying to keep the island safe and hunt down a massive killer shark.

HOOPER: Judy Greer

Originally played by Richard Dreyfuss, I think that Judy Greer would be tremendous as Hooper, the quirky and brilliant oceanographer who comes to Amity Island to assist Chief Brody in tracking down their terrifying shark. Greer is an amazing performer and has recently been relegated to the role of “Mom.” Let’s knock that off. She deserves a big, splashy, starring role in a blockbuster. I think that the JAWS remake would be lucky to have her.

QUINT: Samuel L. Jackson

If there is anyone who can command the screen like Robert Shaw did, with equal parts gravitas and grizzled humor, it is Samuel L. Jackson. He would bring incredible menace and humanity to the shark hunter that survived the sinking of the USS Indianapolis (if the movie still takes place in the 1970s). I would love to see him go head-to-head with Cranston’s Brody and Greer’s Hooper on the deck of the Orca.

ELLEN BRODY: Julianne Moore

Ellen Brody is the Chief’s conscience and I think that Julianne Moore would be terrific in the part and have amazing chemistry with Bryan Cranston. I would love to see the character developed further and get a little more back story on her as well. Not much is known about the character beyond the fact that she is the wife of the police chief. Let’s change that and give her something meatier.

MAYOR VAUGHN: Stephen Root

The part of the shark truther, Mayor Vaughn, is the perfect role for a character actor of Stephen Root’s caliber. You have to see how he is torn between serving the business owner’s of the island and keeping its townspeople and visitors safe. Root would pull that off with great aplomb.

MRS. KITNER: Octavia Spencer

It’s not a big role, but the part of Mrs. Kitner has a huge, emotional impact on the character of Chief Brody. I can see Spencer really bringing it in the sequence at the docks, where the grieving mother slaps Brody for letting the beaches stay open despite him knowing of the shark’s existence.

DEPUTY HENDRICKS: Michael Cyril Creighton

Anyone who has been reading Filmthusiast for any amount of time knows that we bow at the altar of Michael Cyril Creighton. I want him in everything. I’m only upset that there isn’t a bigger part in this movie for him. Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, let’s have him do all the performance capture for the shark too. He’d be amazing. He can also sing the theme song.
