The Hollywood Reporter announced that Rupert Wyatt has exited Fox’s GAMBIT. That is, simply put, a bummer. The departure is being blamed on scheduling difficulties after a recent rewrite caused the budget to balloon and the shoot to be pushed back. After the recent near-departure of Channing Tatum from the project, it’s hard to take that at face value.

The real shame is that we have to wait even longer for another film directed by Rupert Wyatt. His RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is a wonderful return to a long dormant franchise and his follow-up, THE GAMBLER, is a very underrated gambling drama.

No word on who is going to take Wyatt’s place, but I’m sure that Brett Ratner and Len Wiseman have just turned their phones off silent.
